Image made after a clearing storm in Northern Ireland. Spotted the Caravan getting pounded by the most beautiful flat front light and had to stop. While making th eimage all I Could think of was the cover of Leon Russell's Carney album and the song 'Tightrope' quoted below. Go Figure!!!

On Sunday morning I was driving from Erie, Pennsylvania to New York on Route 6 which winds through PA to NY State....looking for fall colors to photograph - was a bit early - maybe a week or so...But route 6 offered up so many other images of dis-appearing America that the trip was a success...

I had just made a turn when I noticed today;s image out of the corner of my eye.....pulled the car over to the side of the road and noticed the gentlemen sitting in the store staring at me...maybe it was the NY plates....so I sat there quietly listening to sports radio (football Sunday) until he went back to his coffee....

Knowing that the person in the window was instrumental to the image I went with my 4/3rd camera and stealthily (is this really a word) shot form the window....After a few images he saw me and got up and walked into the back of the store....luckily I got the image I wanted....

Color or Black and White?

Now the question is color or black and white....

Denver Roller Dolls Scrimmage

On my last day in Denver I was fortunate enough to be invited to shoot a scrimmage at the home practice facility of the Denver Roller Dolls. Fortunately as I was also allowed to shoot from the center of the track - something you really need to experience to understand what goes on out there during a bout. It is complete mayhem and I now understand why you need some experience before allowed on to that turf...

I can't thank the Dolls enough for the hospitality shown to me in Denver.....I made a few rookie mistakes - Derby is much harder to shoot then I had imagined so I learned under fire....I really like the fast moving action and the blurs of color - sort of feels like rock and roll meets NASCAR....

I was driving out of Toledo last week when I caught this image out of the corner of my eye....not something I usually stop for but today could not resist the juxtaposition of guns, ominous sky and corn...So I turned around and went back.....All I kept thinking was 'Ain't that America'......

Coney Island is always colorful candy for the eye. Flashes of color everywhere you look, and, let me also mention the human element is rather colorful. This image appeared out of nowhere - it surprised me while walking down to the beach - looked up and the composition appeared....loved the saturated colors and man made objects against the perfectly blue summer sky....

New Orleans Jazzfest

Great day at the Jazzfest yesterday. Weather cooperated and I got to see quite a mixture of artists - Zydeco, Jazz, Blues, rock and roll to name just a few. For me the highlight was being in the Jazz tent seeing Ahmad Jamal one of America's influential jazz pianists - arguably the in the same league as Charlie Parker.

Ahmad is 81 years old this year and still out there doing it - if you get the chance please catch a show...

This is one of those images that I am proud to have my signature on....

Yes, still working on the 'neon boneyard' images today. Really liking the abstraction of it all. So glad that someone took the time and saved these relics of Vegas past. They speak so much in their various states of decay - reminds me of places like Artists Palette in Death Valley - always some new combination of color and luminosity to play with.

Off to Indianapolis today - teaching an iPhone class at the Renaissance Fine At and Design Gallery.

This image was captured as a horizontal but upon further review ended up as a vertical...

Neon Boneyard

Drove back to Vegas today and went to the Neon Boneyard aka Neon Museum. The Boneyard restores and maintains old neonsigns and from the older casinos and various establishments around Las Vegas.

There are over 150 of these old signs at the Boneyard including places such as  The Golden Nugget, Desert Inn and Caesar's Palace.

Quite the experience being able to photograph these classic old signs - the color is fabulous.
