Desert Sunrise

Desert Sunrise
I was driving to Las Vegas earlier in the week hoping to catch a good sunrise...As the sun was coming over the horizon it seemed rather bland and I was thinking 'not today'. Then I saw an exit called 'Old Ghost Town Road' and could not resist.....Long story short the sunrise was spectacular so I pulled over over and grabbed a typical off highway desert sunrise image.....about all I had time for....

Gary US Bonds

Gary US Bonds
Don't you know that I danced, I danced till a quarter to three
With the help, last night, of Daddy G.
He was swingin on the sax like a nobody could
And I was dancin' all over the room.
Oh, don't you know the people were dancin' like they were mad,
it was the swingin'est band they had, ever had.
It was the swingin'est song that could ever be,
It was a night with Daddy G.

Death Valley - Mesquite Dunes - Detail

Mesquite Dunes - Death Valley
Not much to say today - busy trying to organize leaving for the next month...Las Vegas, Whidbey Island and Denver....found this image of Mesquite Dunes in the archives from November 2009 - my first trip to Death Valley...doing a 'Nature's Peace' show in February with several other artists using images from nature with the focus on National Parks to call attention to the need to expose children to one of our countries finest ideas....check out Ken Burn's National Parks series...great viewing.

that's all folks....

Toldeo Gun Shop

Gun Shop - Toledo
I was driving out of Toledo last week when I caught this image out of the corner of my eye....not something I usually stop for but today could not resist the juxtaposition of guns, ominous sky and corn...So I turned around and went back.....All I kept thinking was 'Ain't that America'......

Coney Island - Morning Fog

Coney Island - AM Fog
I really enjoy walking on the beach on a cool foggy morning -  always create an much diffrent perception of the beach when the fog rolls in - creates something very different to photograph....Reminds me of a quote a friend sent me awhile back...

'I do not want to end up simply having visited this world'.....

Toledo - 1Matters - Silent Auction

Silent Auction Items
Finally back home from the 1Matters Toledo trip - WOW. I was introduced so many dedicated people who volunteer their time for a great cause - helping the 'un-housed' get domestic autonomy. It was an eye opening experience. My props to these dedicated folks through which I was able to see what is possible with a 'little help from our friends'...it felt really good to be a proverbial fly on the wall watching them tirelessly work their magic.....I have started a 'face of 1Matters' on my facebook page and will be posting images of these good folks in the next week or so.

To this end I have donated almost 60 images which include vintae and new music, iPhone and personal work to the cause. This work is at the 20 North Gallery in Toledo (not sure they have updated their website yet but the work is truly there) until October 30th. One component of this show is the silent auction that includes a few signed prints - 2 Billy Joel and 2 John Mellencamp - signatures and images are below. There is also a rare Mountain photo and a canvas print of Leonard Cohen available. Below are the images in the silent auction...

Billy Joel - Budakon Arena - Tokyo 1984

John Mellencamp - Los Angeles - 1994

Signature on the print
And below ar ethe other two music items in the silent auction.
Leonard Cohen - Beacon Theater

Mountain (last show) - Dec 31, 1974 - The Felt Forum in New York City
And let's not forget Kathleen Stevens who donated a piece of her artwork to the silent auction - Kathleen runs the Renaissance Fine Art and Design Gallery in Carmel, Indiana where I rteach workshops and show work.

Birdyboo: A pique assiette work made with vintage bits of china, stained glass, rhinestones and victorian findings. The artist loves to use found items that possess a beauty all their own, creating a new life for bits and pieces that might otherwise be lost to time.  Birdy boo is a piece from a collection that honors re-birth of the creative spirit and what that can mean to individual artistic expression.  1 Matters Silent Auction is the perfect place for Birdyboo to have landed...

Jupiter Beach, Florida

Jupiter Beach , Florida
It never fails to amaze me at what water looks like in a photograph - and Jupiter Beach has quickly become a mainstay for me. The rock formations at this beach are like 'a box of chocolates' - one never knows what will appear in the images. I have always thought this particular rock formation was some sort of prehistoric creature rising from the mist. Looking forward to another trip south this winter...

Pete Townsend - Keith Moon

Keith Moon - Pete Townsend
Not sure exactly sure where this image was made. Cannot recognize the venue from the gate 22 sign might be the old Spectrum in Philadelphia....Date would be 1974'ish

Death Valley - Badwater Basin

Badwater Basin, Death Valley
'Walk away quietly in any direction and taste the freedom of the mountaineer. Camp out among the grasses and gentians of glacial meadows, in craggy garden nooks full of nature's darlings. Climb the mountains and get their good tidings, Nature's peace will flow into you as sunshine flows into trees. The winds will blow their own freshness into you and the storms their energy, while cares will drop off like autumn leaves. As age comes on, one source of enjoyment after another is closed, but nature's sources never fail'..........John Muir

Made it to Carmel, Indiana yesterday - dinner with friends and past students last night - Indian Food.....always happy to catch up.....lots of talk about a location workshop next year - maybe the West Coast......

Packing the show today and off to Toledo tomorrow....I think Jamie Farr was from Toledo or maybe that was just in the Mash shows.....

I am slowly getting lost images back into the blog - the process will take weeks and weeks of tedious work. Actually am thinking about starting a newsletter instead....stay tuned...

Missing Images

Indianapolis BBQ
A few weeks back I was in Indiana and got terribly lost trying to find the Jazzfest location. All the corners had 'no left turn' signs and, of course , that was precisely what I was trying to do.  So I made a right turn and this oasis of BBQ appeared in my windshield. It looked so PERFECT (the firewood outside did help) I simply had to stop. And I was not dis-appointed....Going back to Indiana this week and hopefully will be able to find this again......you can almost smell how good this was.

On a separate note, there is an issue with my blog where all of the images have dis-appeared. I inadvertently deleted a Picaso Photo Album where these images were stored - I was not aware that images for this blog were stored there....Something for all blogger on this platform to understand. I am working to replace as many as possible as quickly as I can....THANKS

Death Valley - Mesquite Dunes

Mesquite Dunes, Death Valley
'This sand seemed to us the connecting link between land and water. It was a kind of water on which you could walk, and you could see the ripple-marks on its surface, produced by the winds, precisely like those at the bottom of a brook or lake. We had read that Mussulmans are permitted by the Koran to perform their ablutions in sand when they cannot get water, a necessary indulgence in Arabia, and we now understand the propriety of this provision'...Henry David Thoreau
