This image is from the Black Sand Beach which lives in the shadow of the Jokulsarion Glacier in the southeast corner of Iceland. The ice structures on the beach are from the glacier lagoon which is about 300 yards from the beach. The ice floats about in the lagoon and eventually breaks into smaller pieces which the tide carries out into the ocean. The waves then push these pieces back on to the black sand beach where we photographers get to make images such as the one posted today....there are endless photographic possibilities in Iceland....

Dingle Peninsula, Surfer

Today's image is from last Christmas while exploring the Dingle Peninsula in Ireland. It was one of those cold, windy days in Ireland, not unusual for this time of year. We were just finishing a drive out on the beach when the surfer appeared....I was able to get off a couple of hand held frames before the cold, wind and sand drove me back into the car. Dingle is definitely on the list for a return visit -  hopefully in better weather.

This is my first time posting from an airplane. I truly love the modern technology - between my computer and the ipad it passes the time quickly....And I might even get some work done....I am short of hard rives up here at 31,000 feet but did find an image from the last trip to Ireland. The place is called Carrick-a-Rede in Northern Ireland. It is where the famous rope bridge can be found. That particular day was much too windy so no one was allowed near the bridge so I turned around and of course there was an image behind me.....

I can not get enough of Ireland....

The Ocean

 I love the water. I grew up one block from the beach on the Jersey shore. The sound of moving water is hypnotic for me - I love waterfalls, oceans, reflective lakes and swampland. What I like even more is water with clouds or fog hanging around. Seems to have a calming effect for me - rain has that effect also.

As a kid I can remember always being around the water, riding my bike to school or spending weekends on or around the beach and ocean. Today's image truly mirrors my feeling about water.

This image is from Laguna Beach, California. I was out there a few years back tooling about at sunrise looking for images when I came upon this scene. Luckily enough it was so early that most of the parking spaces by the shore were open (not the case later on a summer day) therefore I was able to simply pull over, grab a camera and tripod and capture the image.

PS: I found it necessary to start another blog on my  iPhone work only. For some reason that I have yet to figure out if you are subscribed to this blog you will also receive my iPhone-Antics blog. I am in the process of figuring out how to separate them. Thanks for your understanding.

Ireland Day 3

Was really tired last night upon arrival in Adare, Ireland post.

Left Galway early on Saturday and dropped down into the town of Kinvara where I captured the image above - Dunguaire Castle..From there it was small roads that hugged the Atlantic Ocean down to the Cliffs of Moher. And when I say small roads they were small roads. Captured many images - only posting the ones I can get done before passing out...

From The Cliffs of Moher we drove through Ennis and then a stop in Quin where we visited the Quin Friary where the image below was captured....It was now getting dark so it was off to Limerick before dropping down into Adare for two nights.

Today it was west again heading out to Ballybunion on the coast of the Atlantic Ocean. We spotted a sign that said 'Castle View Bed and Breakfast ' just outside of Ballylongford. Knowing the Irish are very literal it was off to find the castle that did not appear on any of our maps. Found the castle out by Carig Island - Carrigafole Castle. Spent about two hours in that area exploring and capturing images on the island and various older structures in and around the castle. I hope to get a high resolution image of the castle posted in the next few days.

Then it was off to Ballybunion and it's splendid beaches to see what else could be found before nightfall. Actually had some good light at the end of the day and, amongst others, was able to capture the image below.

 After Ballybunion it was pretty much straight back to Adare and some well needed sleep. Tomorrow it is off to the south - places like Baltimore and Kinsale (all coastal and mountainous) are on the list before ending up in Cork....

A couple of black and white images today.

The one above was captured with my iphone4 and processed for a photo-gravure alternative process look. The low resolution of the iphone makes this possible.

The image below is a three shot high resolution panoramic stitched and converted to Black and White in Photoshop CS5.  This image was captured driving from Death Valley to Las Vegas.

Everglades Revisited

Still working on images from the Everglades earlier this year - although it seems like it was several years and twenty thousand images back. I still can't believe I drove over 3,500 miles on that trip. Hoping to repeat this same trip again this year, specifically the part where you go out early and walk around on the oyster beds at sunrise - what a hoot.

The image above is from Blowing Rocks on the east coast of Florida...love the ocean so this location proved inviting and I spent several days shooting and captured over 1500 images. Surely has something to do with my childhood spent by the sea in Atlantic City.

The one below is from Chokoloskee Bay in the Everglades. Went out early on a boat to walk the oyster beds and capture sunrise images. Very eerie feeling being out there in the water at that location at sunrise...feels like you are in some sort of timeless void and you are the only person left on earth.

Hampton Beach Bike

This image is somewhat confusing for me - mostly having to do with my perception of childhood. Is the viewer involved with the image or standing outside looking at a missing childhood experience. I believe the answer lies in a place between the literal image and the personal emotion one feels when viewing an image.

This image will become part of a series on Childhood Dreams.
