Iceland - Glacier Detail

Last Wednesday and Thursday were spent at the Fosshotel Skaftafell in the southeast of Iceland. Right behind the hotel was Iceland's highest mountain, Hvannadalshnjukur,  and the largest glacier, Vatnajokull. The glacier was in walking distance from the hotel - a bit of a mountain walk but generally accessible.  Additionally the glacier Jokulsarion is a quick 40 minute drive from the hotel - and at 3AM can we reached in less then 30 minutes.

The glacier covers covers approximately 8% of the country - Iceland being the same size as Kentucky - 40,411 square miles...

With the hotel so close we were able to photograph this glacier three times. Of course I made traditional landscape images but today's post is  detail from this glacier....

The image in the header is the wide shot this detail was pulled from....If you are receiving this blog via email click on the title and it will take you to the main blog page to see the wide shot.
