Sunrise, Zabriske Point, Death Valley
“As the language or vocabulary of photography has been extended, the emphasis of meaning has shifted, shifted from what the world looks like to what we feel about the world and what we want the world to mean.” – Aaron Siskind

Christmas Carousel, Maine
Took a few years but I finally got around to this image. Funny how we can perceive an image artistically but can not seem to make it work on a substrate. Then, as if by magic, we grow into the image technically and both the vision and the technique come together in the print…..possibly I am close to my 10,000 hours….

Caravan, Northern, Ireland
Image made after a clearing storm in Northern Ireland. Spotted the Caravan getting pounded by the most beautiful flat front light and had to stop. While making th eimage all I Could think of was the cover of Leon Russell's Carney album and the song 'Tightrope' quoted below. Go Figure!!!

'Like a rubber-neck giraffe
you look into my past
well maybe you're just to blind to - see
I'm up in the spotlight
ohh does it feel right
ohh the altitude
seems to get to me'....Leon Russell

Iceland, Family Farm Hobbit Church

Church, Vik, Iceland
This remarkable structure sits of a farm at Nupsstadur, Skaftareppur, Vik, Iceland and is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and is believed to be typical of farms in Iceland;s past centuries. This tiny chapel is one of the few remaining turf churches in Iceland, but the entire area is a stunning sight to see.

The are a good many churches of all sizes and shapes in Iceland - I have been here many times but this last time the gate was up - the locals told me there was a family feud going on about who owns the land... Apparently the older folk have passed on...I always loved visiting this farm on my Iceland trips. This is a two image horizontal panoramic stitched in CS6.

I am planning a workshop in September - please email me for details.

Iceland Workshop

Church, Iceland
Iceland Adventure:

I am planning a trip to Iceland in September. This trip would be in conjunction with a local Icelandic Photo Guide, Christopher Lund, whom I recently spent 5 days with in the southeast of Iceland photographing waterfalls, the Black Sand Beach and Glacier Lagoon. Chris is a very knowledgeable photographer who lives in Iceland and knows the country very well.

The trip would be a combination tour and workshop – we will spend part of the time processing images both traditional camera and iPhone, if that is your calling, but will spend as much time as possible in the field shooting. The class time will cover Lightroom, Photoshop masking and use of third party software for processing in the digital darkroom as well as iPhone processing and applications.

Arrival into Iceland would be September 10 with a departure on September 17. We will cover the following locations, focusing on the north:

Geothermal areas near Lake Myvatn and Peistareykir
Waterfalls such as Dettifoss, Aldeyjaross and Gooafoss
Interior locations at either Fjallabak Nature Reserve and Kerlingarfjoll
The Lake district of Veioivotn
Jokulsarlon Galcier Lagoon and the Black Sand Beach (southeast)
