Boston, Massachusetts

Boston Sunset
'Yeah, down by the river
Down by the banks of the river Charles (aw, that's what's happenin' baby)
That's where you'll find me
Along with lovers, fuggers, and thieves (aw, but they're cool people)
Well I love that dirty water
Oh, Boston, you're my home (oh, you're the Number One place)
Frustrated women (I mean they're frustrated)
Have to be in by twelve o'clock (oh, that's a shame)
But I'm wishin' and a-hopin, oh
That just once those doors weren't locked (I like to save time for
my baby to walk around)
Well I love that dirty water
Oh, Boston, you're my home (oh, yeah)'.........THE STANDELLS
Night Baseball - Boston
I was browsing the archives this morning and realized there were a few images of Boston made over the past 4-5 years. I was big into HDR back then - a bit over the top about it - but have re-processed and toned them down a bit.....I am not a big fan of HDR these days but do like the way it renders these difficult images.

Red Barber Chair, ESP

Red Barber Chair, ESP
This is a re-doux of an image from a few years back...The Red Barber Chair is in the Eastern State Penitentiary in Philadelphia. A good trip to Philly is to get to the Graffiti Underground and then Eastern State. Makes for quite the photographic day...

Ireland Rainbow #2

Ireland Rainbow #2
This image is from two years ago very near the Cliffs of Moher in County Claire, Ireland. These cliffs are just east of Shannon, south of Galway. We were traveling some back roads when the rainbow suddenly appeared. For the most part in Ireland you just stop the car, grab a camera and shoot - there is usually never a place to park..

As it happens quite frequently in Ireland when we arrived at The Cliffs about 15 minutes later the fog had rolled in and the rain was coming down.  On the bucket list for a summer visit...

This is a 5 image panoramic stitched in Photoshop.

Jersey Shore

VIP Motel - Jersey Shore
Driving back from Cape May today we took Route 9 instead of the Parkway..I was amazed at how desolate the beach strip was - no cars - no people - other then a few getting ready for the winter months. It was like everyone just got up and walked off to return again next summer - an apocalyptic film set. I know the summer months are the complete opposite but it was nice to see the shore in this particular mode.

These places are throwbacks to a time gone by for sure. They have such wonderful shapes and colors and are simply irresistible when one has a camera in hand. And the light was particularly cooperative today...

Ireland, Horses

Ireland, Horses

This image is one spotted out of the corner of your eye while traveling 100KM per hour on a barely wider then your car Ireland road just after a vicious rainstorm...So, of course you back up, fit your car in  a parking space, and make the image......

Zabriske Point - Detail

Zabriske Point, Detail
It seems like there are endless ways to portray this location in Death Valley...Just when you have what you consider the one there are still more to work with....Death Valley has become a constant source of images, Dunes, Zabriske and Badwater Basin.....One thing for sure is that these natural locations need protection in the years to come....

I do remember this image as I went off to a different spot for the sunrise that morning - had watched these same shadows the morning before and made sure I was in the right location to catch them the next day...Proves the point that you need to go back many many times to catch the character of any locations...

Everglades, Smooth, Quiet, Sunrise

Quiet Sunrise, Chokoloskee Bay, Everglades National Park
Actually this image is just after sunrise out in the Everglades..The captain brought me out in the dark and dropped me off on an oyster bed just before the sun peeked out...That was truly a defining moment for this lad from New York.. The silence was deafening....I remember him clearly saying, 'you better get out now or you will miss the sunrise'. So I did.....Took a few minutes to get my bearings, particularly after he went out into the bay about 200 years - I wondered who helps when the alligator shows up... After that first 10 minutes it was difficult to get me off the oyster bed...a truly amazing experience...

Firego, Route 17

Firego Gas, Route 17
A few years ago I was on a road trip to Florida on Route 17 to photograph in the Everglades with Clyde Butcher. I chose Route 17 and was expecting to, and found,  many old business locations that were long closed down and deteriorating - a subject I enjoy. This image, the Firego Gas Station was one of the first images made on that trip. Personally I have never heard of this brand of gasoline so not really sure what time period it might be from...

I will be making a presentation at the Photography Club of Lower Fairfield County in  Stamford, Connecticut  on Wednesday night, January 18   Click here for information. Hope to see you there...

Death Valley, Mesquite Dunes 2

Death Valley Dunes, Stovepipe Wells
'Come forth into the light of things, let nature be your teacher'.....William Wordsworth

I have been to Death Valley on four separate occasions and have made around 5000 images in various locations. All in all the sand dunes are up near the top of my favorite list and also the most difficult. Get there at the wrong time and there are footprints from the many visitors. The best time for me is sunrise, which is even better if a high wind blew away the footprints overnight. If not one needs to get as far out as possible to avoid people and prints...not always as easy as it sounds.....
