Dubai, Fossil Rock

Fossil Rock, Dubai

Of wild and wilderness? Let them be left,
O Let them be left, wildness and wet;
Long live the weeds and the wilderness yet'.....Gerard Manley Hopkins

Desert Sunset

Desert Sunset
A bit out of my comfort zone on this one. At first it seemed to dark and then I realized that it worked dark - mostly because it was dark....great lesson here for me....stay out of the way...reminds me of the Garry Winogrand Quote, ''I photograph to find out what something looks like photographed'...need to remember that....off to wrap a few gifts...

Fossil Rock, Dubai, UAE

Fossil Rock, UAE

Before leaving for the United Arab Emirates the one thing I wanted to do was four wheel in the red desert just outside of Dubai . My friend Alex, who lives in Dubai, did a bit of research and suggested Fossil Rock as a good location. . After searching the internet I was all in......

On Monday, Alex and his hired guide, Mez, picked me up and off we went in search of Fossil Rock. After about 45 minutes the color of the sand started changing from a pale red to the red you see in the image above. Just after the color change we started to see Fossil Rock off in the distance - I , for one, was very excited.

Next stop was to deflate the tires to grip the sand and off we went into the dunes. The dunes are similar to riding a roller coaster with a touch less stability...A cross between a coaster and being on ship in rough sea....at times we would come to a crest on top of a dune without being able to see the other side, usually a steep vertical drop that left one feeling a bit nauseous....they tell you not to eat before dune riding...

At any rate. long story short, we made to Fossil Rock. We did get stuck on the top of one dune but Mez was able to get us out....
Whoops.....

Dingle Peninsula, Surfer

Surfer, Dingle Peninsula
Today's image is from last Christmas while exploring the Dingle Peninsula in Ireland. It was one of those cold, windy days in Ireland, not unusual for this time of year. We were just finishing a drive out on the beach when the surfer appeared....I was able to get off a couple of hand held frames before the cold, wind and sand drove me back into the car. Dingle is definitely on the list for a return visit -  hopefully in better weather.

Everglades Revisited

Chokoloskee Sunrise, Everglades

Still working on images from the Everglades earlier this year - although it seems like it was several years and twenty thousand images back. I still can't believe I drove over 3,500 miles on that trip. Hoping to repeat this same trip again this year, specifically the part where you go out early and walk around on the oyster beds at sunrise - what a hoot.

The image above is from Blowing Rocks on the east coast of Florida...love the ocean so this location proved inviting and I spent several days shooting and captured over 1500 images. Surely has something to do with my childhood spent by the sea in Atlantic City.

The one below is from Chokoloskee Bay in the Everglades. Went out early on a boat to walk the oyster beds and capture sunrise images. Very eerie feeling being out there in the water at that location at sunrise...feels like you are in some sort of timeless void and you are the only person left on earth.

On another note my Allusions of Reality show opens tomorrow night at the Renaissance Fine Art and Design Gallery in Carmel, Indiana. There is a link below to view the images from this show. All images are for sale and one can contact Kathleen Stevens at the Renaissance Fine Art and Design Gallery for more information.

All images in this show are inkjet prints using  Epson Ultra Smooth Fine Art Paper. They are printed on an Epson 9900 printer using the latest Ultra Chrome Inkset Technology.

Santa Monica - Day 1

The weather was not what I wanted today although I did manage to  make an Iphone capture of the Santa Monica Pier just after sunrise this morning - i was hoping to get a bit of fog to hide some of distracting elements around the pier, but, it is raining today, so tomorrow morning might work out. This image of the pier was posted on Facebook today and then since I really like this image it is also going on the blog.

The image below was captured in Scotts Valley, Ca. on the drive to Yosemite last week. I stopped to visit a friend and this scene was in his backyard - could have sat around there all day but had to get moving on to Yosemite.
I am going to be in Santa Monica for two more days - tomorrow is a drive up the coast circling back at some point to have lunch with friends in Pasadena.....have I mentioned how much I like the California coast.....
