It is time again. Sunday, June 23 is the annual Mermaid Parade at Coney Island in Brooklyn. This will be my 4th one - here are a few images from the past parades. This could only happen in New York kids, only in New York.........

Mermaid Parade

Mermaid Parade, Coney Island
One of my favorite events is only 7 weeks away, the annual Coney Island Mermaid Parade. So, of course I went back in my archives and found today's posted image. I always felt this image had a semi-religious feel and did some additional processing on her eyes to further create that illusion.

That being said this is the 30th anniversary of the parade. The date this year is June 23rd and it is marked in red on my calendar.....Always a fun time - only in New York kids....And don't forget Coney Island is the home of Nathan's World Famous Hot Dogs....

Brooklyn Bridge

The Brooklyn Bridge
It was one of those perfect image days in NY.....I was driving to meet an old friend for lunch in Bushwick when I noticed the fog that encapsulated the entire city....It was then I knew what the hours after lunch would be - making images near the Brooklyn Bridge...How could I resist the light....

This image is an iPhone4 processed on my Mac Pro. The original image was processed and blended using Macphun Photo Studio and Nik Snapseed on the iPad before being Photosync'ed to the Mac Pro...On the Mac Pro I used Color efx4 to find a look that I liked and then blended this back into the image from the iPad....

Coney Island - Morning Fog

Coney Island - AM Fog
I really enjoy walking on the beach on a cool foggy morning -  always create an much diffrent perception of the beach when the fog rolls in - creates something very different to photograph....Reminds me of a quote a friend sent me awhile back...

'I do not want to end up simply having visited this world'.....

Peter Frampton

Peter Frampton
Working at scanning and printing more rock and roll images over the past few weeks...Trying to get a few more images for the Music and iPhone show that opens in Toledo in October. As I mentioned over on my iPhone-antics blog I have been working with iPhone applications on the Mac and created the background for today's image in Photo Artista Haiku - blended back with the original in Photoshop CS5.

New York Subway Impression

New York Subway
So much goes on in the subway system in New York City....everyone moving quickly and directly to wherever they may be going. For someone not from NY this can be a daunting experience but as a New Yorker the subway provides the most direct, quickest form of transport for getting from one place to another...most just keep their heads down and keep moving forward.....this image is what my camera saw as I walked up the stairs at the West 3rd Street station in Greenwich Village....

This image is from my 'No Look - Point and Shoot' series.....

Fire Island July 4th

Fire Island, July 4th Parade, 1994
Fire Island is is a barrier island just off the south shore of Long Island. They say it is approx. 30 miles long and between 520 and 1300 feet wide...and has maybe 500 permanent residents...

The island is reachable in the summer by ferry which means no cars allowed....perfect place for kids....

On July 4th every year there is a parade. Kids dress in costumes, make elaborate floats using wagons and bike.....and march through Ocean Beach, one of the hamlets that dot this island...

Today's image is my look at the judging/viewing stand for the parade....

Bob Dylan

Dylan - Van Ronk
Today's image was from some sort of protest in New York City, circa 1970'ish.....It may have had something to do with Phil Ochs but the gentlemen with Bob is Dave Van Ronk. Oddly enough I once took guitar lessons from Dave on Sheridan Square in lower Manahattan....

Johnny Winter

Johnny Winter, Madison Square Garden
This image made at Madison Square Garden in the early 70's....Note that they had people sitting right on the stage - such a different time in live music......not only that but you cold shoot the entire show and use flash if necessary...I was never much of a flashy on camera guy but in this case it helped to show the folks on stage......killed the stage lighting but had to get the shot...

Photographed with a Nikon F series camera using ektachrome color slide film
transferred to the digital world using an Imacon scanner
