Everglades - Duck Rock

Duck Rock - Everglades
There are days when the words just do not show up at blog time...today is one of those days. I have been printing for three shows for the past three weeks and most likely need to get out of the house and change up the scenery. A change of scenery is very much necessary after long days in the lightroom....your eyes start to play tricks on you - the smallest artifact gets magnified beyond necessity. I have learned over the years is that trying to evaluate a print immediately is a huge mistake - put it off until the next day. A fresh set of eyes is a good thing....24 prints done - 16 to go...

Whoops - guess I did have something to say today....

Jupiter Beach

Sunrise, Jupiter Beach, Florida
'It is horrifying that we have to fight our own government to save the environment'.......Ansel Adams

I always walk away from images like this feeling honored to have been at this place at this time....to see nature offer up this scene...Someone once mentioned that as a photographer if we have 300 images that we like at the end - and have averaged 1/60th of a second - our work took 5 minutes. BUT WHAT A FIVE MINUTES....

Photographed using a Mamiya 645DF, Phase One P65+, 45MM Lens

Jupiter Beach

Jupiter Beach, Florida
Still on the subject of water.

I drove down to the everglades about 18 months ago and met up with my friend Doug Eng in Jacksonville. Together we toured the east coast of Florida ending up on Jupiter Beach one morning at sunrise.

Well, it was quite the sunrise that morning with the water pounding the shore - the waves were jumping as high as 5-6 feet. I was entranced by the continually moving water and captured maybe 200 images that morning - mostly at a shutter speed of 2-3 seconds.

I really liked the surreal feel that the water takes on when it is allowed to circle back on itself due to the long exposure - more or less allowing the sea to make a statement on its own. So much to see inside this image.

I converted top black and white above.

Captured with a phase one P65+ on a Mamiya 645DF using a 75-150MM lens.

Everglades Workshop

Yesterday was the first day of the Cyde Butcher Workshop. We were swamp walking in the morning (murky and muddy) and in the afternoon, well, look at the photo below.

On the morning walk I slipped and fell into the swamp but managed to save my gear, except for my iphone which is now located at the bottom....Lost a phone and a good camera.

On Sunday Captain Gary Thompson is taking us to a less traveled location about 90 minutes south of Everglades City - hopefully we get some cloud cover that day -

Here are a few images from today...
