Roger McGuinn Composite

There are times when one is minding his own business and an idea shows up that must be dealt with immediately - never quite sure why or where it comes from - it suddenly just steps forward. And over the years I have learned to jump on these ideas to see where it takes me.....today was no exception.

This afternoon I was looking through my lightroom catalog and come across this image of Roger McGuinn from the 70's and the idea of putting a texture on the image comes to mind....I went in to the texture folder and the first one that I see works for me - then the idea of text comes into my mind and I was off an running....

I have no idea why this happened but I am glad it did.....Hopefully there are a few more ideas in there....and they are all welcome around here.......

Jimmy John's

Jimmy John's Delivery Person
Sometimes you just have to be there......I was shooting at a studio in Denver yesterday and we ordered food from Jimmy John's for lunch. My cell phone rings and this female voice tells me the food is here but she can not find the studio door. So I volunteer to go outside and guide her in, and, immediately upon seeing her my photographic bell starts ringing.....I just loved everything about her right down to the pearls and the pen hanging off her t-shirt...she agrees and the image is posted today.

Sometimes reality does inspire....

Opera Singers

Opera Singers, New York City, circa 1975
Best I can remember this image was captured for Zoo World Magazine back in the 70's.  At the time I was living in New York and working on 28th street as a first assistant in  a commercial photography studio. Not quite sure if they were mother-son or husband-wife, but they were sure fun when they came by the studio.

During that time period I moonlighted in the music business, going to photograph concerts, and, doing some magazine work on the side. Back then you could spend the entire night shooting from the pit, unlike today where it is three songs from back of house with a long lens. Times have certainly changed.

I have posted this image before but not in Black and White.

Labelle

Patti Labelle, Nona Hendryx, Sarah Dash and Cindy Birdsong were a group called 'The Ordettes' circa 1960. When Birdsong departed for the 'Supremes' in 1967 they eventually morphed into 'Labelle'.

Originally this was shot in color for Rolling Stone in 1973. I much prefer the black and white conversion.

The new header image was captured on Route 17 in Woodbine, Georgia..

Roger McGuinn

Not quite sure of the actual date (possibly mid 1970's) that Roger McGuinn (The Byrds) stopped by the studio in NY for this image. He was the first person I had met who was involved with the new wireless technology - my memory is a bit vague on what he actually has in hand but I believe it was some type of early wireless communication device.

At any rate this image was for a story being done by either Circus or Zoo World magazine....
