Framing Angst

Landing in Bali
Nothing like driving to the frame shop thinking about what I had printed, how it was printed and what else I missed - fairly typical of that moment just before one looks at the work ready for the show. Somewhere I understand that feeling in the gut having been in the entertainment industry for most of my life. But this was my work and my vision so of course it must be different - but it is not....

In the end it is simply another brick in the wall (music metaphor) on the way to the next step of the learning process - which I believe never ends....

At any rate the images looked really good framed - and the sports metaphor of 'you have to finish' comes to mind....

1Matters, Gallery SHow

Urban Landscape, Yellow Taxi
It is time for my annual visit to Toledo, Ohio where I present a gallery show to benefit 1Matters.Org, a group that works with the homeless to create domestic autonomy. They are also heavily involved with homeless veterans, helping them to put a roof over their heads - something our politicians might want to pay attention to.

The link below will take you to the media for this show, as well as the website if you would like to learn more about 1Matters and the work they are doing. This organization is completely volunteer except for one part time programming manager.

Bali, Portrait

Balinese Child
Have been here in Bali since last Friday and not much in the way of photography - just working mostly and out of the image head.

Yesterday we moved locations and ended up right on the Indian Ocean and all that changed - the east has ocean, beach, clouds, mountains and a totally different vibe from the north.. Peaked my EYE immediately as we made the trek from the north to the east......

This morning I got out at 530AM and the driver took me to a small fishing village about 30 minutes form the hotel - the boats go out at 3AM and return at 9AM so I was not able to catch one coming back in early . But for me the little girl in the photo above made my day...she was sitting as her mother prepared the store that would sell the catch of the day.

How can one not photograph those eyes... And I like that she is looking directly at me .....

Need to get out one more time before leaving Bali on Saturday for Singapore.

Hong Kong

Arrived this morning at 5AM and about ready for some sleep. Not much time for making images today - too busy fighting off jet lag. Did manage to make a few images from the balcony of my hotel room. Hong Kong is quite the bright vibrant city one would expect and quite built up from the last time I was here. Has a bit of the Dubai feel about it......construction everywhere...

Stay tuned for more over the next few days.

Miner's Camp, Telluride

Miner's Camp, Telluride
Awhile back I posted the iPhone version of this image. Actually misplaced the card that had my higher res images and found it today - right in the camera where I left it..

Valley of Fire

Valley of Fire
'In every walk with nature one receives far more than he seeks'.......John Muir

Spent some time in Vegas this year and manged to get out to Valley of Fire which is about 50 miles northeast of downtown. This particular structure caught my eye - at first glance I was attracted by the faces in the rocks to the right - per-historic comes to mind. On a second look it appeared to be some sort of two-headed animal resting - note the long tail.....I have always wondered why nature provides this visual treat, and, for one, I am happy to enjoy the view.

Jupiter Beach, Florida

Jupiter Beach, Florida
I am leaving for Asia on Thursday (with a three day stop in The City of Angels). In addition to some planning for the trip I am printing for three shows of my landscape work, October in Ohio, November in Indiana and December in New York.

Most of the images are from our National Parks. Places like Zion, Yosemite, Death Valley as well as Caddo Lake (East Texas), Florida Everglades, Scotland and Ireland. I might also throw in a few Urban Landscapes - after all I do live in New York.

Today's image is from Jupiter Beach , Florida. My friend Doug and I went out for sunrise on this day and we were not disappointed. We were greeted by a fast moving tide and lots of color in the sky. To this day Dough and I still talk about that morning as if it was yesterday.

Stay tuned for more information about the shows -
