Thought I would post a few new images from my time in Las Vegas - meaning new images of the live Dancing with the Stars show at the New Tropicana Hotel.

The Viennese Waltz, Dancing with the Stars

One of the my favorite moments in the Dancing with the Stars show at The New Tropicana Hotel in Las Vegas is the Viennese Waltz with Ryan Di Lello and Iveta Lukosiute. This particular Waltz starts out in extremely low light which makes if very frustrating trying to make a photographic image. Add that to the light being dappled, and well, there were obstacles to overcome. I have photographed this dance approximately 20 times now, and, the image posted today is the first one that truly captured how I feel when watching Ryan and Iveta dance.

There are a few other magical moments in this Waltz but you will really need to be there to enjoy those moments - can't give too much away....

Dancing with the Stars will be at the Tropicana Hotel in Las Vegas through July 7th....

The image was post processed using NIK software, Lightroom 4 and Photoshop CS6.

The Pasodoble

The Pasodoble is a theatrical Spanish dance. Usually the man is the bullfighter or matador while the women is the cape as in a Spanish bullfight. This dance is based on Flamenco dancing, the Pasodoble is arrogant and passionate - mostly performed as a competition dance as opposed to a social dance.

Today's image is Iveta Lukosiute performing with Dancing with the Stars at the Tropicana Hotel in Las Vegas until July 7, 2012.

The Lindy Hop

Still in Vegas and still making images of Dancing with the Star at the fabulous Tropicana Hotel.

The Lindy Hop was probably started in Harlem, circa 1920/30's. Based on tap, jazz and Charleston the Lindy Hop eventually evolved into the jitterbug which became somewhat famous during the heyday of American Bandstand...

Been quite a while since I last posted. Have been in Las Vegas producing a live show for Dancing with the Stars which will sit at the Tropicana Hotel Theater until July 7. The days have been long and the show finally opened last night....Naturally I got the cameras out and made a few images - this is one from the opening number in the show....Viva Las Vegas....stay tuned -more to follow...

These dunes are new to me - first time there. I had heard about them so I sought them out last Sunday while cruising around the Death Valley area. It was love at first sight when I pulled up to these dunes - problem was they had been through a weekend of off-road vehicles chewing up the pristine sand. I decided to make a few images and see what I could do to turn the tracks into texture, which in the end I felt good about.

The areas in and around Las Vegas and Death Valley are ripe with imagery - well worth a trip if you are in the area...

I was driving to Las Vegas earlier in the week hoping to catch a good sunrise...As the sun was coming over the horizon it seemed rather bland and I was thinking 'not today'. Then I saw an exit called 'Old Ghost Town Road' and could not resist.....Long story short the sunrise was spectacular so I pulled over over and grabbed a typical off highway desert sunrise image.....about all I had time for....

In Las Vegas working on America's Got Talent - three shows this weekend at The Colosseum at Caesar's Palace. This years winner was Landau Eugene Murphy who is the headline act along with Michael Grimm (last year's winner),  Jack Vidgen who won Australia's Got Talent, Silhouettes, Anna Graceman, Fighting Gravity, Poplyfe and Landon Swank.

The first rehearsals were in Los Angeles with musical director Will Hollis and have now moved to Las Vegas. Shows are Friday, Saturday and Sunday.....This is a fun show with some fabulous artists......

Yesterday was long day in Indianapolis. Taught an iPhone class (12 participants) at the Renaissance Fine Art and Design Gallery in Carmel, Indiana. Already have started planning a two day event where we can go out and capture some images so the class can take their creativity to the next level.

Seems reasonable to post an iPhone image today that I worked on in the class....

Yes, still working on the 'neon boneyard' images today. Really liking the abstraction of it all. So glad that someone took the time and saved these relics of Vegas past. They speak so much in their various states of decay - reminds me of places like Artists Palette in Death Valley - always some new combination of color and luminosity to play with.
