iPhone Portraiture

Jeff
I have been using my iPhone for portraits for quite some time, mostly using the application Hipstamatic as well as various other iPhone camera applications.

My favorite Hipstamatic lens and film combination is the JohnS lens with Kodot Grizzled film. I enjoy the softness of this combination and the way it renders the face. Additionally I like using this in low light situations as in the portrait of Jeff posted today which was done in a hallway in the Tropicana Hotel Theater.

As most of you know I process images in any was that gets them to what I am seeing - this one is no different - I used NIK Snapseed and Old Photo Pro on the iPad and then transferred the image to my laptop and made some global adjustments using NIK Color EFX Pro4 before making local adjustments in Photoshop CS6.

Give it a try - you might like the results....

PS: This lens and film combo works well for landscape, including panorama images and street photography.

Dancing with the Stars, Lindy Hop

The Lindy Hop
Still in Vegas and still making images of Dancing with the Star at the fabulous Tropicana Hotel.

The Lindy Hop was probably started in Harlem, circa 1920/30's. Based on tap, jazz and Charleston the Lindy Hop eventually evolved into the jitterbug which became somewhat famous during the heyday of American Bandstand...

If you happen to be in Vegas stop by and say hello.......The show will be at The Tropicana until July 7....

Vintage Gas Pumps

Vintage Gas Pumps, Indiana
As of late I have been processing my iPhone Photography images using NIK software in Photoshop CS6-Beta. Additionally I use use Snapseed for the Mac quite a bit.

The image today, Vintage Gas Pumps was made using ProHDR and processed using this workflow - iPhone iMage moved over to the Mac and processed using Color EFX 4, Snapseed and Viveza along with curves and sharpening in Photoshop CS6-Beta. I find this opens an entirely new vision for my images and will continue to explore this post-processing technique.

Death Valley, U, We, Wash

U, We, Wash, tecopa, California
Last week, for the most part,  was spent in a hotel in Las Vegas. Being in Vegas for that long you lose touch with the outside world. Almost anything can be going on outside your 'climate and smell' controlled environment.

So yesterday I jumped in the car with a few cameras and headed out for the day to clear my head. The area just outside Las Vegas is really great for losing ones-self in a much more natural landscape so I headed out for Dumont Dunes. Little did I know that the dunes were located just outside of Death Valley. As many times as I have been to Death Valley I never traveled Route 127, and now that I have, it is on the list for another day of more extensive exploration.

The Dunes were really interesting but more suitable for a sunrise when there is less chance of tire tracks covering the sand from off road vehicles.  I did, however manage to make a few images that will be processed on another day.

Today's post was located near a trailer park just outside of Tecopa, California, a small town that is home of the Tecopa Hot Springs. Usually I content aware out the wires but for this image I thought they they needed to be left as is....some sort of a last connection to civilization. Actually sights like this are not uncommon in this area of California....a surprise around every turn..
